Learning the Basics of Horsemanship and Riding
The Horseketeers showcased the essence of Pony Club last weekend by hosting the Sunshine Region’s annual Everything-but-the-Horse Rally. This event focused on helping new and prospective Pony Club members (and their parents) learn more about horsemanship, as well as how Pony Club “rallies” are generally conducted. The more experienced Pony Clubbers helped 4 teams of competitors learn about several rally components, including how to inspect tack, conduct a dressage test, as well as how to walk and prepare for a jump course. Many parents remarked how much they learned as well, and wished they had known about this youth riding program when they were younger! The nineteen new Pony Clubbers at this event ranged in ages from 5 to 20, and all had a fantastic day!
Eventing Rally 2012 Results
Congrats to the Horseketeers team (a/k/a Team Skittles) -- Katie-Rose K., Rachel M., Elizabeth M., Megan M., and Jordan B. -- who were terrific this weekend! They finished first in their division (which amounted to second place overall, out of 7 teams). And they also were second overall in Horse Management. Elizabeth M. received an award for having the best dressage score in her division, Beginner Novice (Test A), with an impressive 29.5. That's the equivalent of 70.5%! Team Captain Jordan B. received the Joan Ketcham Award for Best Spirit. She thoroughly impressed the judges with her quiet can-do attitude and leadership. Jordan's name will be added to the plaque of this perpetual award, which is especially meaningful because Mrs. Ketcham was Ms. Jane's D.C. many years ago when Ms. Jane was in Pony Club.
